Your favourite Carlton Cole moment
|
As we try so far unsuccessfully to sign some of Europe's finest strikers I think it's worth pausing for a saguine moment to remember from where we have come.
He may not have been the best but we loved him all the same. I think my personal favourite was a non footballing moment. I think Wikipedia says it best:
'Cole was again charged by The Football Association in March 2015, when in response to a Tottenham fan taunting him on Twitter by asking whether he would consider retirement, he replied "Fuck off you cunt". After admitting the offence, he was fined £20,000.'
Worth 20 grand of anyone's money that.

Either, setting up Defoe against the yids or missing another sitter and having a good laugh about it in the snow against Blackburn.

That goal against Wigan. Parker to Di Michele to Carlton, played a one two then curled it bottom corner, or along those lines. One of our better goals back in those dark days.

I was at the ground yesterday and in the press room there were advertising boards (like you see players/managers being interviewed in front of) with the WH crest and 'CARLTON COLE'S WORLD' all over it. No idea why, can't find anything online.

Mark Noble: "It was 2006, we'd signed Carlos Tevez. None of us knew a lot about him, anyway, he's walked in, I've clocked his burns straight away, looked like he'd done a week all inclusive at Mick Philpotts gaff. None of us were gonna mention it, then, Carlton Cole pipes up. "Oi, foreigner, wear a turtle neck in future, you're putting me off my lunch." Next day, Carlos puts a 9 iron through the windscreen of his Range Rover".

Cole was pretty pony for us. A few decent performances aside. However I like him as a geezer. He has always come across as a top bloke and I think he and I could be genuine buddies. I read he got racially abused on twitter and his response was something along the lines of “Just because I’m as strong as a gorilla it doesn’t mean I am one”. He also took to calling himself CFC after hearing that’s what he gets called by us. Great attitude, and much better than pissing and whining about the grief.
Just a shame his talent didn't match his attitude.

#1 scoring a stunner then gifting Defoe the equaliser.
#2 missing a sitter v wolves only for it to go in off the defender behind him.

SteveJacko, that goal against Wigan was brilliant.
That turn and shot against Tottenham in 2009 was classy too. That was before he ballsed it up.
Scoring our first against Chelsea at Upton Park a few years ago is also one of my faves as we hadn't beaten them in ages.
My favourite moment though is the steam rising from his head when being interviewed after we smashed Man U in the League Cup.

Yeah that's the one, I don't know why but that goal stuck in my head for years. It sort of went against the other shit we were putting up with back in those days. It's the sort of goal we'd be used to seeing nowadays with this squad.
